Badgers trounce De Queen behind strong sixth inning

By ISAAC BOURNE | The Arkadelphian

Senior Tripp Campbell was just one hit shy on his second no-hitter on the season in the Arkadelphia Badgers 9-0 defeat of the De Queen Leopards (7-5) Friday night.

Besides Campbell, senior Donovan Whitten put on a hitting clinic, logging an RBI in three of his four at-bats, accounting for three of the Badgers’ nine runs.

The Badgers (8-4) held the lead for the entire game after scoring two runs quickly in the first and one in the third, which led to a scoring explosion in the final two innings, where the Badgers went for two and four points respectively in the fifth and sixth innings to close the door on the desperate Leopards.

This win moves the Badgers into sole possession of the top spot in the 4A-7 conference, overcoming the Nashville Scrappers Friday night.

The Badgers now travel to Magnolia to face the Panthers Tuesday night. The last time these two teams faced, Campbell threw a no-hitter in a 1-0 effort at home. Arkadelphia has a big week coming up with regards to conference seeding, where they will see the aforementioned Panthers, but also Lake Hamilton, a 5A school, and Malvern, who defeated the Badgers in their last outing in Arkadelphia.
