EDMOND, Oklahoma — Ouachita Baptist University senior wrestler Johnny Green highlighted his team’s performances at the NCAA Super Regionals on Sunday by finishing as the runner-up in the heavyweight bracket and earning a trip to the national championship event in two weeks.

After earning a first-round bye as the fourth-ranked heavyweight in all of NCAA Division II, Green took down McKendree’s Rozell Baker in the quarterfinals by a 12-4 major decision.

In the semifinals, the Allen, Texas native made quick work of Drury’s Thomas Massengale with a win by fall to set up a rematch in the finals against the top-ranked heavyweight in the nation, Central Oklahoma’s Shawn Streck.

Streck beat Green in December at the Midwest Classic by a two-point decision. On Sunday, it was even closer with Streck earning a one-point win (2-1). Neither wrestler scored in the first period. Both earned one point in the second. Streck scored what ended up being the match-winning point in the third period with an escape at the 1:56 mark.

Brooks Schrimsher (197) and Jaylon Otero (157) also had successful outings with fifth place finishes in their respective brackets.

Overall as a team, the Tigers finished eighth out of 11 teams with a total of 37 points. Green was responsible for 16 of those points with Schrimsher and Otero combining for 16.5. James Anderson earned two points in the 133 bracket. Hudson Herring earned 1.5 in the 143. William Martin earned one point in the 184.

Green will compete at the NCAA Division II National Championship event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa set for March 10 and 11.
