Lady Badgers snag win at home over Lady Cards

TeTe Tate had 16 points and senior guard Amya Snowden added 10 in the Arkadelphia Lady Badgers’ 47-42 win over the Camden-Fairview Lady Cardinals (12-10) Friday night.

Tate had a breakout game for the 13-7 Lady Badgers in light of a rough shooting night for star senior guard Liyah Smith, who only had six points on the night.

“Definitely proud of her and everything she does on both sides of the ball,” head coach Jonathan Klein said about the sophomore guard. “Her 16 points obviously helped but she does so much more for us outside of scoring and it was good to see her hard work pay off tonight.”

This game comes off a break caused by the wintry weather that postponed Tuesday’s game and canceled practices. The first half of the game was characterized by multiple possession changes and various steals.

“We just focused on the things in our control and tried to hone in on the little things,” Klein said. “We really try to stress the details and how those little things lead to big things. After having an extended break due to the weather, we needed some time to knock the rust off and find out rhythm, and I don’t think we ever really got 100% but we did get enough to pull out the win.”

After going down 12-9 by the end of the first quarter, Arkadelphia went on to outscore the Lady Cards 38-30 in the final three quarters and win the game. A total of 17 second-half points between Tate and Snowden led to a big run in the period, giving the Lady Badgers their sixth conference win.

Outside of Tate and Snowden, senior forward Makayla Gentry added seven points while sophomore guard Taylor Aultman had six, and rounding out the scoring for the Lady Badgers was Raygan Harris, who had two.

The Lady Badgers will play again Monday night in Arkadelphia as they take on the De Queen Lady Leopards (8-4), who could not come into town for Tuesday’s game.
