Arkadelphia Public Schools Superintendent Nikki Thomas will deliver her first Report to the Public on Tuesday, Nov. 15, prior to the November meeting of the Board of Education.
Thomas’ report will begin at 5 p.m. in the upstairs boardroom of Dawson Building #3, 700 Clinton St., Arkadelphia.
The school board will convene at 6 p.m. to consider authorizing Thomas to sign an easement at the school district’s daycare property in Gum Springs. The proposed 10-foot-wide easement runs along the southern border of the property, behind the daycare center, and will include a sewer line maintained by Arkadelphia Utilities Department.
A second action item on the agenda appoints Krystal McLane as the school district’s treasurer.
The school board will also consider a $48,240 bid from Southwest Auto Group for the purchase of a new pickup truck for the maintenance department. The vehicle is a four-wheel-drive 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. Although two bids were received at lower cost, adding certain options (carpet flooring, work steps, 18-inch wheels and tires and dark essentials package) would add $1,500 to the package offered by Southwest Auto. The school board in August budgeted $55,000 for a new maintenance vehicle to replace the current 1989 model and authorized Jimmy King, director of support services, to seek bids. King as requesting the board to accept the bid from Southwest Auto to support a local business that also supports school programs. King said he plans to use to remaining balance to equip the truck with a utility bed and ladder rack.
The final action item on the agenda is to consider a date change for the board’s regular December meeting due to the Christmas break.
Both the Report to the Public and school board meeting are open to the public.
