Obituary: Oneda Beavers

Services commemorating the life of Oneda Dickens Beavers will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon, with Rev. Johnnie Harris as eulogist. There will not be a public visitation.

Oneda was born to the union of Sherman Dickens and Sarah Lowery Dickens on December 18, 1949, in Gurdon. At an early age, she confessed her life to Christ.

Oneda was a 1967 graduate of Bell High School. On February 15, 1969, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Murmon Beavers Jr., and to this union one beautiful baby girl was born. This union expanded for 26 years until Murmon’s passing in 1995.

While living in Michigan, she worked as a Lab Technician at a Sparrow Hospital, and later at Coca-Cola in Texarkana. She enjoyed the sound of Jetter Jones Blues, watching The Voice, and The Young and the Restless. Oneda enjoyed the simple things in life.

Oneda transitioned from this life on Monday, July 4, 2022, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Laura Bell Green, Mary Jo Dickens Broomfield, and Sherman Dickens Jr.

Her love and compassionate spirit will forever be treasured by her daughter, Marian Beavers (Henry D. Smith); one grandson, VaDale Charles Young (Breanna Ollison) and their expecting son; two bonus sons, Randy “Lil Darling” Dickens and Shafungus “Bunker” Dickens; one brother, David Dickens; two sisters, Shirley R. Dickens and Clea E. Stephens (JN); and a special friend of the family, Johnny Smith, all of Gurdon, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Cooper, Jacque Tuggle Jr., Kentrell Green, Rob Green, Moses Dunn, Ki’Arron Summerville. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Dickens, Randy Dickens, Shafungus Dickens, Ricky Stephens, Quinn Stephens, Jonnie Smith, Raymond Green Jr., and Lee Quarles.
