BITS & PIECES: Tuesday, June 7

This week we welcome Seth Collins, an Edward Jones financial advisor, on board as an advertiser with The Arkadelphian. In our recent visit Mr. Collins pointed out he hadn’t heard of us until his clients and friends told him to check us out, and for the past month or so, he said, he has been visiting the site often and reading local news. It’s a pleasure to have him on board both as both a reader and advertiser. His firm’s advertisement is clickable, so pay him a digital visit and see what he has to offer for your financial security.

The Try a Truck event that was originally scheduled earlier this spring has been rescheduled and will take place this weekend from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Arkadelphia High School parking lot. Sounds like a fun time for the kids, so head out there and pay the $3 admission that goes toward a good cause.

The five of us — Dad, Mom, 7-year-old Daughter and our two Chihuahua dogs — loaded up the pickup with camping gear, cooking equipment and food, and drove to a spot on our leased hunting land in Dallas County. It was early spring and the branch dissecting the property was still cold from the winter. We pitched the tent close enough to the branch that, even over the birdsong, you could hear its waters trickle over the gravel shoal near our camp.

Slow news days are aggravating, but it’s nice once in a while to have a break from big news to revisit or catch up on some backlogged ideas. We don’t want to pull stories from out of nowhere, and we certainly don’t want to put out content that isn’t newsworthy. Got a story idea or know someone worth writing about? Drop us a line: editor@arkadelphian.com.

Professional bass fisherman Randy Plyler dropped by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office recently to honor Sheriff Jason Watson and Arkadelphia Police Chief Jason “Shorty” Jackson with personalized gear and apparel from The Hero Company. Plyler told us he chose Watson and Jackson for their years of service in law enforcement together. The Hero Company is one of Plyler’s Bassmaster sponsors.

Did you know there’s a special name for the facial protrusion between the eyes and mouth of the residents in Dr. Seuss’ Whoville? What are they called? Who nose.

We sure do miss Tiger Mart and are ready for it to be rebuilt. It looks like the old Cannon Auto shop is about to be demolished, and the old El Mariachi in the Pine Street curve is now vacant. That business, Los Agaves, is now operating in Caddo Valley in the old Wendy’s building.

We need a new computer!
