KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ouachita Baptist University sophomore men’s tennis player Alex Blanchar has been named the MIAA/GAC Player of the Week after helping the Tigers grab two wins on the road.

Blanchar was the only Tiger to go undefeated in both doubles and singles in wins over No. 14 Northwest Missouri State (4-3) and Drury (5-2).

In the win over the 14th-ranked Bearcats, Blanchar’s singles win in fifth position was the clincher in a hard-fought match. After dropping the first set 6-3, the Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Spain native fought back to beat Northwest Missouri’s Mason Alexander-Meier with scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (1) in the second and third sets. Earlier in the match, he and teammate Phil Exner earned a 6-4 doubles win in third position.

The next day, Blanchar had a less difficult time earning his singles win, beat Drury’s Jip DeBuck 6-1 and 6-3, again in fifth position. Blanchar and Exner won their doubles match 7-6.

Blanchar and the Tigers are back in action this weekend against Midwestern State at home on Friday and against Montevallo on Sunday in Magnolia.
