
Services to commemorate the life of James Edward Crawford “Poochie” will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Williams Funeral Home with Rev. J. L. Newborn, the eulogist. Public visitation will be Friday, March 4, from 1-7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home.
James was born December 27, 1951, in Manning to Clement Crawford and Ora Dell Hicks. He was raised by William E. Craig and Corine Craig.
He was a 1970 graduate of Sparkman High School which was the first integrated class. He excelled in all sports and made life-long friends. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He married his true love, Shirley Ann Daniel, on September 29, 1978, and to this union, Jason was born.
James was a longtime cook at the Fish Net Restaurant in Caddo Valley. He was an all-around family man who enjoyed the easy listening of the blues. He was a member of the masonic lodge and loved all sports, but was a baseball enthusiast. James was known to always have a nice car and would get sharply dressed when he was out on the town. He would spend hours watching westerns. He was a true gentle giant with a big heart. He never met a stranger and just about everyone knew “Poochie”.
James passed from this life on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, at Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Ann Crawford (August 30, 1953 – February 16, 1985); a brother, James E. Harrison and a sister, Phyllis Box Harris.
Poochie leaves his son, Jason A. Crawford of Minot, N.D.; eight grandchildren, Kyla Crawford, Kayley Crawford, Jason Crawford Jr., Kamryn Crawford, Kyra Crawford, Keirra Crawford, Malayza Crawford, and Harmoni Crawford; sisters, Pamala Box of Benton, and Mary Ann Box of Little Rock; four brothers, Gary (Leola) Box of Portland, Ore., Alcapone Box, Larry Box and Ronnie Box all of Little Rock. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives, and friends.
