RUSSELLVILLE — For the second-straight time, Henderson State slugger David Vilches was named Great American Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Vilches, from Sheridan, Arkansas, continued his red-hot start to the season this past week for the Reddies. In four wins, the catcher and outfielder had six hits, eight RBIs, two doubles, three home runs and 17 total bases. Vilches slugged 1.133 for the week and had an OPS of 1.633. The senior was particularly dominant in the series sweep of Oklahoma Baptist, where he hit a home run in all three games.
Through the first 11 contests of the season, Vilches has been arguably the top power hitter in the country. He currently leads all NCAA DII players with eight home runs and is No. 7 nationally with 20 RBIs. He is batting .349, slugging 1.000 and has hit at least one home run in six of the Reddies’ last seven games.
The unbeaten and No. 18 Reddies hit the road this weekend when they travel to Bethany, Oklahoma to face Southern Nazarene in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.
