Vance announces run for Clark County Assessor

Mona Vance announces her candidacy for Clark County Assessor in the upcoming 2022 Republican primary. Vance is currently serving as interim County Clerk, but has a total of 15 years of experience in public service and community government.

Before her appointment to fill out the County Clerk vacancy in 2020, she served as the District Court Clerk for Caddo Valley. She worked for former County Clerk Rhonda Cole from 2005 to 2017, where she served as payroll clerk and Chief Deputy Clerk. From 2001 to 2005, she was a paralegal and bookkeeper for local attorneys Andy Berry and Clint Mathis.

While serving as interim County Clerk, Vance has successfully led the county through a seamless presidential election and was able to pivot effectively and efficiently to keep the office functioning when COVID-19 created so many challenges. “These are my proudest achievements from my interim period,” she said. These experiences have shown Vance her calling to public service, and while she has not previously worked in the assessor’s office, she frequently works with it.

“The County Clerk and Assessors offices work jointly with the Equalization Board,” she explained. This experience gave her insight that helped her better understand her own property assessments. “Honestly, assessing property used to puzzle me. If it were not for my experience in county court, I probably still wouldn’t understand it. That’s what I want to do in the position of Assessor. I want to take the confusion of property assessment away, so the people of Clark County can understand everything they need to know,” Vance said.

She said she wants to educate the taxpayers about critical deadlines related to assessing, “freezing” their taxes and to help everyone feel more comfortable with the process. “I want to make all things transparent so everyone feels informed and up-to-date,” she added. Vance, a graduate of Arkadelphia High School, has been married to Travis Vance for 20 years. They have four children, Hunter (Brooke), Garrett (Sadie), Conner and Maddie; and three grandsons, Levi, Elijah and Atlas.
