ARKADELPHIA — Henderson State Athletics hit double digits on a huge academic milestone Thursday when the department registered a cumulative GPA of 3.08 for the 2021 fall semester — its 10th consecutive academic term with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

A record 450-plus student-athletes make up Reddie Athletics, which has now turned in a 3.0 GPA or better every semester since the spring of 2017. Eleven different programs at HSU recorded team GPAs or 3.0 or better, including all nine women’s sports.

“Academic success has become more than an expectation here at Henderson State,” Director of Athletics Shawn Jones said. “It has become who were are as an athletic department, which is a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators and professors. As always, I want to thank our Academic Advising Coordinator, Chanda Hooten, for her efforts, as well as everyone who diligently pours into our student-athletes to help them be successful both on the field and in the classroom.”

The women’s basketball program had the highest overall GPA among all teams at Henderson with a mark of 3.61. Men’s golf recorded the top GPA on the men’s side with a 3.22 for the fall term. Twelve of the Reddies’ 14 programs had at least one student-athlete with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
