Goodman named GAC’s Specialist of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE — Ouachita Baptist University sophomore football player Gabe Goodman has been named the Great American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after helping the Tigers win their fifth consecutive Battle of the Ravine.

Goodman ignited his hometown crowd this past Saturday when he nailed a 53-yard field goal with 57 seconds remaining in regulation, which ended up the game-deciding score to give Ouachita a 31-28 victory over its rival Henderson State.

It was longest field goal in Goodman’s career by 10 yards, and the second longest field goal this season by a GAC kicker. The Arkadelphia native also handled the extra point, punting, and kickoff duties in the win.

This was Goodman’s second game-winning field goal of his career. In 2019, he nailed a 38-yarder with 1:05 remaining to beat Harding 16-14. He ended up earning a spot on the All-GAC honorable mention team that season as a freshman.

Overall this season, Goodman finished 6-for-9 on field goals and 43-for-44 on extra points.
