Tigers volleyball rebounds with sweep over Northwestern

ARKADELPHIA — The Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team responded from its three-set loss on Friday with a three-set win on Saturday at home, this time against Northwestern Oklahoma State. Final game scores were 25-13, 25-20, and 25-23.

The Tigers (7-12, 2-5 GAC) went from having no aces in Friday’s loss to 11 aces in Saturday’s win over NWOSU (6-13, 1-6 GAC). Kellen Church had four total aces in the win, including three straight in Ouachita’s 6-0 run to start the match.

Ouachita hit an even .300 in the first set, and improved that number in the second set with 18 kills and only six errors for a .308 percentage. Overall, the Tigers hit .279 in the win.

NWOSU led for the majority of the third set, including a late 20-17 lead. The Tigers took advantage of a couple of errors to go along with a kill from EJ Day to tie it up a 20-all. Kills from Day and Kayla Steinmeyer were four of Ouachita’s final four points.

Day led the Tigers with 13 kills and only three errors. Steinmeyer added a double-double of 13 kills and 12 digs. In addition to her four aces, Church added 20 assists and seven digs. Temi Fayiga added 15 assists. Lexie Castillow led the back row with 13 digs.

The Tigers are back in action on Monday, October 11 on the road for a non-conference match against Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
