Cody Lee Hunter, Jr., was born on May 19, 1953, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to Cody Lee Hunter, Sr., and Tennie Marie Jefferson Martin.
He attended Peake High School, where he played tuba in the school band. Cody united with St. Paul AME Church under the leadership of Rev. James Thomas.
A natural craftsman, Cody inherited his gift for working with his hands from his mother. He was a carpenter who could build nearly anything, including dollhouses and clocks. He also enjoyed drawing; given enough time, he could sketch a picture with remarkable detail.
Cody was quiet and often kept to himself. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to gospel and blues music. He enjoyed family and never missed an opportunity to share stories of the past.
