Heatwave to linger through the week

Hazardous heat is expected to continue through this week with triple-digit heat index values, says the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

Daily high temperatures will be in excess of 95-100 degrees, with heat index values greater than 105 degrees. The Heat Risk will largely be in the Major category, with some parts of the state entering the Extreme category into the later parts of the week.

The good news is that relief from the heat remains possible in the long-term forecast — particularly next weekend into the following week.

The seven-day forecast for the Arkadelphia area calls for mostly clear skies and hot days throughout the week. Nighttime lows will be in the low 70s or upper 60s. The next chance for rainfall is Sunday, with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Clark County remains under a Heat Advisory until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, though that could be extended as the forecast is updated.
