Two members of the Arkadelphia City Board tendered their resignations after it was learned they did not actually live in the ward they represented.
According to a press release from the city, on the evening of July 22, 2026, the City Clerk Chama Williams notified City Manager Gary Brinkley of a potential discrepancy involving the ward representation of two board members. During a review of candidate documentation, it was discovered that Robert Davis had been appointed to represent Ward 4 while county records reflected a different ward assignment. Upon further investigation, officials confirmed that Davis resides in Ward 3 and that changes resulting from the most recent census redistricting had affected his ward designation.
The review also found that Robin Jones had been appointed to represent Ward 3, although her residence is located in Ward 5, which is represented by Jason Jones. Robin Jones owns property in Ward 3 and believed that property ownership qualified her to represent that area. However, municipal officeholders must reside in the ward they represent.
Officials consulted with the city attorney, who conducted legal research and sought guidance from the Arkansas Municipal League regarding the matter.
On Monday, July 27, Brinkley requested the immediate resignations of both Davis and Robin Jones. Both resignations were submitted and accepted at the Aug. 4 board meeting.
The city will proceed with the upcoming election for the offices of Ward 1, Ward 4, At-Large and Mayor. In addition, the letters of interest will be sought to complete the unexpired terms for Ward 3 and Ward 4 following these resignations.
Robin Jones has since filed for election to the city’s at-large position.
The press release noted that the city of Arkadelphia remains committed to transparency, accountability and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws governing municipal representation.
