Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced plans to make TexARKana the state capital for one day.
The Miller County seat on Arkansas’ southwestern border gets its name from compounding three states — Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana — after a railroad surveyor wrote “TEX-ARK-ANA” on a board and declared it the site of a future town nearly 150 years ago.
The governor’s “Capital for a Day” program highlights cities around Arkansas and brings senior state government officials into town to meet with their local counterparts. Texarkana will be the governor’s 19th Arkansas city to serve as state capital for a day.
