Local theatre company offering students summer workshops

Arkadelphia-area teens and pre-teens may sign up now for two Summer Theatre Workshops to be offered in July 2026 by Arkadelphia Little Theatre and the Clark County Arts and Humanities Council.

July 1 is the registration deadline for both the high school workshop, for students entering grades 9-12, on Saturday, July 11, and the middle school workshop, for students entering grades 5-8, on Saturday, July 18. Cost of the workshops will be $15 per student. Lunch will be provided.

Both workshops will be held at the Arkadelphia Arts Center, 625 Main St. The registration form for both workshops is on the Facebook pages of both the Arkadelphia Little Theatre and the Clark County Arts and Humanities Council.

Each of the workshops will be limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Directing both workshops will be Claudia Beach, a retired HSU theatre professor and former director of HSU’s Theatre and Dance program. Another retired HSU theatre professor, William Henshaw, will also be teaching, along with other Arkadelphia Little Theatre members.

Both workshops are designed to give participants an overview of the process of bringing plays to the stage, including acting, costuming, makeup and other backstage functions – as well as hands-on activities.

“We’ve been talking about doing this for a while,” Beach said. “We know a lot of young people are curious about theatre, and we hope to nurture that interest.”
