HSU to expand nursing program thanks to $440,000 Windgate Foundation grant

From Henderson State News

Henderson State University has been awarded a $440,000 grant from the Windgate Foundation to expand its nursing program and address critical workforce needs across Arkansas and the region.

This latest investment builds upon a longstanding and impactful partnership between Henderson and the Windgate Foundation. Since 2016, Windgate’s support has played a transformational role in advancing academic excellence and expanding student opportunity at Henderson. With this newest grant, the Foundation’s total investment in Henderson State now exceeds $2.2 million.

The grant will be distributed over two years and will support the addition of nursing faculty, renovations within the nursing building, expanded instructional and simulation capacity, and the purchase of additional high-fidelity simulators.

This investment will allow Henderson to increase its nursing cohort size, creating a permanent and sustainable increase in the number of highly trained, practice-ready nurses entering the workforce each year.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Windgate Foundation for their continued partnership and this tremendous investment in Henderson State University and our students,” said Henderson Chancellor Dr. Trey Berry. “This support represents a powerful commitment to the future of healthcare in Arkansas. By expanding our capacity, we are not only strengthening our nursing program, but also helping meet the growing demand for qualified nurses across our state and region. The Windgate Foundation’s partnership is truly instrumental to the momentum we are building at Henderson and the lasting impact we are making in the communities we serve.”
