Patrolling Pine Street, Officer James Shearin observed an eastbound Chevrolet pickup with illegal fender well lights and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle turned north onto 16th Street, briefly parking at a residence behind the Family Dollar before accelerating and turning onto Gresham Street. The driver came to an abrupt halt in the yard of 1521 Gresham, where he exited the vehicle. Shearin drew his service pistol and ordered the suspect to the ground. The officer also took mental note of a female passenger still in the vehicle as the driver jumped to his feet and fled east on Gresham Street through yards. Shearin’s foot pursuit ended when he lost sight of the suspect as he crossed 14th Street. Returning to the vehicle, Shearin noticed that the female, too, had fled. A witness said she ran in the opposite direction. A search for both suspects was unsuccessful. The report does not indicate what happened to the suspect vehicle.
