Arkadelphia woman charged after fleeing from DWI-related car crash

An Arkadelphia woman is facing serious charges after police say she caused a car accident while under the influence of alcohol.

Yoshike Monaye Aurberry, 30, was arrested the night of Nov. 7 near Elliston Place Apartments, just blocks from the scene of a two-vehicle collision that left three people hurt.

Officers with the Arkadelphia Police Department were called to the intersection of Pine and Caddo streets for an accident, learning upon arrival that one driver fled the scene in a black Jeep. A police affidavit indicates that one of the occupants would suffer a mild concussion and the other two suffered unlisted, minor injuries. All three occupants told police the other driver failed to stop at the intersection traffic light.

While at the scene, dispatchers advised officers of a call from a witness who observed the Jeep traveling east on Walnut Street. Police gave search, locating a wrecked Jeep in the parking lot of Ellison Place Apartments, 222 N. 20th St. As an officer drove closer, the suspect vehicle reportedly began traveling in the opposite direction. A traffic stop was attempted in the parking lot and was ultimately made on North 20th Street.

During the stop it was evident from the odor of intoxicants that Aurberry had consumed alcohol and — based on a gash above her eye, an abrasion on her arm, and the several pieces of wrecked vehicle parts inside the cab — that she and the Jeep had been involved in a very recent collision. Aurberry failed a series of field sobriety tests, and provided a breath sample showing a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit, or four times the legal limit if involved in an accident.

Prosecutors are charging Aurberry with Failure to Stop After Accident With Injury or Death, a felony punishable by up to 6 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000, as well as misdemeanor DWI and fleeing.

Henderson apartment search results in discovery of marijuana distribution operation

Henderson State University police say they uncovered a marijuana sales operation in a university-owned apartment complex.

Parker Andrew Schaeffer, 20, of Arkadelphia, is accused of running the operation out of his residence at Ridge Pointe Apartments, 1050 Huddleston St.

On Nov. 18, university police were called to the apartments following a Resident Adviser’s discovery of a large amount of marijuana during a room inspection.

An investigators with the HSUPD observed various amounts of marijuana and other containers labeled THC wax, as well as multiple scales and other paraphernalia — “items commonly included in distribution” — during the search. There was also a slow cooker containing marijuana resin, and a backpack containing a small amount of marijuana and more paraphernalia. The pot weighed a total of 8.6 ounces.

Schaeffer, who claimed ownership of the marijuana and accessories during an interview with police, said he bought the pot the day before in Malvern. Schaeffer is charged with Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance With Purpose to Deliver, a Class C felony that carries a potential prison sentence of 3-10 years and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

Two charged in apartment raid

Two young Arkadelphia men face serious drug charges after police raided their residence and found a large amount of marijuana.

Jalon Frazier, 22, and Darius Austin, 26, were arrested early in the morning of Dec. 5 following the execution of a search warrant by agents with the Group 6 Narcotics Unit and other law enforcement officials.

A search of their Richardson Street address yielded numerous bags containing large amounts of marijuana, as well as various THC vape cartridges, other paraphernalia, and firearms.

Frazier allegedly claimed ownership of seven bags containing marijuana weighing more than 5 ounces, various THC vape cartridges, paraphernalia, and two firearms. Frazier is charged with Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms, a Class Y felony that carries a potential prison sentence of 10-40 years or life, and Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance With Purpose to Deliver, a Class D felony punishable by up to 6 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

A separate affidavit filed in the case ties Austin to possessing 10 bags of marijuana weighing more than 4 ounces, and scales and other paraphernalia. Austin is charged with Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance with Purpose to Deliver.

Rearview mirror ornament leads to traffic stop, drug arrest

A Gurdon woman with a knack for interior decor of a vehicle became the target of a late-night traffic stop that resulted in felony drug charges.

Leighanne Marie Holman, 36, was traveling south on Highway 67 after midnight on Dec. 1 when a Clark County deputy sheriff “observed something hanging from the rearview mirror” and conducted a traffic stop at the highway’s junction with Duke Road.

The deputy advised Holman that the reason for the stop was for “obstruction of interior view.” The officer also observed the “entire front of the windshield was busted”, and he detected the smell of marijuana. Unable to provide proof of insurance, Holman was asked to exit the vehicle while the deputy searched the car. A check of her jacket pockets revealed a cylinder-like container holding a baggie of methamphetamine weighing .58 grams.

Holman was placed into custody and taken to the county jail.

Prosecutors are charging her with Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance, which is punishable by up to 6 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
