Stolen Chicago-area 18-wheeler recovered on I-30

A Chicago man is facing felony charges in Arkansas after authorities say he was driving a semi-truck and trailer reported stolen out of Cook County, Illinois.

Court documents made public this week say that Bartosz Wozniak, 34, was arrested Oct. 10, 2025, after Arkansas State Police made a traffic stop after learning that the stolen vehicle was traveling west on Interstate 30 through Clark County. A police affidavit notes that dispatchers advised troopers that the vehicle’s owner was actively tracking it via GPS. The coordinates showed the truck to be traveling westbound near the 83 mile-marker near the Caddo Valley exit.

Trooper Kemp Smith positioned his patrol car on the shoulder of the on ramp at the Arkadelphia exit and, within minutes, observed the truck pass by. Smith followed, catching up with the 18-wheeler at the 68 mile-marker, near the Gurdon exit. Smith radioed ahead for backup before initiating a traffic stop, notifying a trooper stationed in Nevada County who staged himself at the 49 mile-marker, where the pair of troopers would conduct the traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as Wozniak, was ordered to exit the vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident.

Troopers cleared the truck’s cab, discovering that it displayed a fraudulent U.S. DOT number placard on its side exterior. Both the truck and trailer were confirmed stolen through state and national databases, and it was towed from the scene. Wozniak was transported to the Clark County Detention Center for booking.

Wozniak is charged with two counts of Theft by Receiving (value greater than $25,000), a Class B felony punishable by 5-25 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $15,000.

Wozniak lists his employer as a scrap metal dealer in Chicago Heights.

Traffic stops lead to felony drug arrests

Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office have made two felony drug arrests following recent traffic stops in Arkadelphia.

The first arrest was made on the evening of Dec. 3, when a deputy patrolling Pine Street noted an oncoming driver’s high-beams were apparently disguising the fact he had a non-functioning low beam. A traffic stop was made at 15th and Gresham streets, and the deputy immediately detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Christopher Newson, 34, of Arkadelphia.

Learning that Newson did not possess a valid driver’s license, the deputy began a search of the vehicle to find a pill bottle containing methamphetamine and three THC vape cartridges. Newson was arrested at the scene, and the meth weighed .72 grams.

A Dec. 11 judge’s order allowed for Newson’s release from custody to enter a rehabilitation treatment in Charlotte.

The second arrest was made Nov. 19 on Pine Street near the Circle K gas station, where a deputy ran a vehicle’s license plate through the ACIC database to find it had unconfirmed insurance. A traffic stop was then made, and the deputy smelled marijuana. The driver was identified as Lindsey Trejo, 30, of Caddo Valley.

A search of the vehicle yielded a pill bottle containing several multi-colored tablets and powder from the crushed pills. Both tested positive for methamphetamine. Trejo was arrested at the scene and transported to the county jail. The pills had a combined weight of 10 grams.

Trejo would go on to say the drugs belonged to a friend whom she had allowed to borrow her car.

The formal charge for both suspects is Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance, punishable by 3-10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
