In an effort to provide warmth and comfort to those in need, the Clark County Quilters Guild have donated almost 50 handmade quilts to local law enforcement agencies. The donation comes after six months of dedicated work by the quilting group, a volunteer organization affiliated with the Cooperative Extension Service.
Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson and Arkadelphia Police Chief Jason “Shorty” Jackson were present to accept the donations on behalf of their respective departments. The quilts will be distributed by officers to individuals affected by traumatic, disturbing or distressing events.
“This project is a way for us to give back to our community in a meaningful, heartfelt way,” said a spokesperson for the Clark County Quilters. “Each quilt was made with care, and we hope they bring comfort to those who receive them.”
The initiative coincides with Extension Homemakers Month, celebrated throughout May in Arkansas. The Clark County Quilters are part of the Extension Homemakers Clubs (EHC) — a network of volunteers committed to lifelong learning, community service, and leadership development. EHC is the largest volunteer organization in the state, with nearly 3,000 members and over 300 clubs.
