MAR-A-LAGO, Florida — President and famed hotelier Donald J. Trump has big plans for Arkadelphia as he announced April 1, 2025, that he’s buying a former Henderson State University dormitory to open a five-star luxury hotel.
Trump said in a press release that he found a listing for Newberry Dorm on Facebook Marketplace and “immediately jumped on the investment.” He wouldn’t divulge the negotiated price between his company and HSU, but public records held at the Clark County Circuit Clerk’s Office show that Henderson sold the 8-story dorm for $10 million.
Henderson Chancellor Trey Berry told the Clark County Constitutional that the purchase would be “just enough to get us out of the big hole those two knuckleheads got us into,” referring to former HSU president Glendell Jones and Brett Powell, his chief financial officer.
Trump told reporters from his Mar-a-Lago mansion that renovations are already under way for an anticipated opening prior to the Mid-South Music Festival, which he said he would be attending personally to see his favorite metal bands, GWAR and Papa Roach, headlining the event.
Arkadelphia Building Department records indicate that The Trump Organization had contracted Batson Signs to add his signature TRUMP signage to the tip-top of the building’s facade. Using the Arkadelphia Fire Department’s ladder truck, the Batson boys were seen Tuesday morning hauling a man-sized letters up the ladder to affix them above an eighth floor dorm window.
