Stormy Saturday, cold week ahead for South Arkansas

There is a threat Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, for strong to severe thunderstorms across the southeastern portion of Arkansas, the National Weather Service in Little Rock said.

The main hazard associated with the severe weather will be damaging winds. Elsewhere, rain and scattered thunderstorms will be noted.

Rainfall totals between Friday and Sunday will be highest across the southeastern two-thirds of the state, generally along the Interstate 30/40 corridor, and particularly in eastern Arkansas where up to 4 inches of rainfall could fall through Sunday. Some areas of heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding and prolong ongoing river flooding along the lower Ouachita River.

Colder air and dry conditions will return Sunday and Monday. Forecasters are monitoring the probability of wintry precipitation, though the possibilities of accumulation are less likely in the southern half of the state.

Arkadelphia’s extended forecast calls for a high chance of rain on the night of Valentine’s Day, with showers and possible thunderstorms continuing into Saturday. There could be wind gusts of up to 15 mph Saturday, and even higher that evening as precipitation exits the region. The daytime high will reach 60.

Sunday will be windy, as well, with gusts up to 20 mph at times. The daytime high of 42, followed by a much colder nighttime low of 21 under clear skies and calm winds.

Monday will be cold and sunny with a high near 46 and a cloudy night with a low around 29.

Moisture will return Tuesday with a 50% chance of rain and a high in the mid-40s. Precipitation chances increase to 70% Tuesday night, with rain, snow and freezing rain likely. The chance of rain and snow continues into Wednesday with a daytime high near 38.
