Several festivities centered around the American bald eagle are slated for the weekend of Jan. 17, 2025, at DeGray Lake Resort State Park.
Held each January, 2025’s event marks the state park’s 46th year of celebrating the eagle and many of its birds of prey counterparts.
The lineup promises adventures in the way of eagle watch cruises, live falconry hunts, owl prowls and golf course safaris. Admission ranges in price depending on age and event. CLICK HERE for pricing information.
Eagle watch cruises, some of which are scheduled ahead of the three-day event, take adventurers on a guided cruise on the lake with a park interpreter, spending an hour in search of bald eagles, ospreys, loons, herons and other birds.
Live falconry hunts are awe-inspiring hunts that take place on a lake island, where spectators will take a short boat ride to watch as master falconer Rusty Scarborough turns loose a couple of trained hawks in search of prey.
For the “night owls”, Raptor Rehab of Central Arkansas will show off a collection of owls during an educational presentation, followed by a release of some rehabilitated owls into the park. Join a park interpreter afterward for a hike through the nighttime forest in search of a live encounter with the nocturnal owl. Those events are free. Paying visitors can make reservations for the Owl Prowl Adventure Cruise — much like the guided eagle cruise, but at night.
The nighttime Golf Course Safari allows participants to take golf carts out on the park’s course in search of owls and nocturnal creatures. There are age limitations for driving carts, and reservations are required.

Another free event is Raptor Rehab, where onlookers get up close and personal with live, rehabilitated birds with Raptor Rehab of Central Arkansas.
