MAGNOLIA, Arkansas — No matter what kind of gift is under the Christmas tree this year, Drake Souter has already been given the best gift in the world — a second chance in life.
Samantha “Sammy” Tenney-Wilcox of Roy, Utah, was a stranger to Drake Souter. She provided matching healthy stem cells he needed to fight his battle with acute leukemia. They are strangers no more due to a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet over the summer.
Drake Souter and his wife, Kimberly Souter, along with other members of his immediate family traveled to Utah in June to meet Sammy and her family. He said it is an experience he will not forget.
“I mean it’s a surreal experience and I didn’t really know what to say to her, and you don’t know what it is going to go but once we talked, I feel like I had known her all my life,” Drake Souter said.
