Update: Driver killed in I-30 crash at Rockport

This post was updated 11/15/24 to name the previously unidentified driver.

One person died in a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning Nov. 10, 2024, on Interstate 30 near Rockport.

Arkansas State Police identified the deceased as Jonithan Wallace Bowles, 38, of Jacksonville. A preliminary fatal crash summary indicates that Bowles was eastbound in a 2007 Ford Focus when, near the 101 mile-marker, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a cable barrier on the median shoulder. The vehicle then crossed back over the highway, through both traffic lanes, and left the south shoulder.

The vehicle then rolled, ejecting Bowles, who died at the scene.

Time of the accident was recorded as 6:50 a.m. Investigating state trooper Cpl. Harlee Robinson noted rainy weather and wet roads at the time of the accident.

Editor’s Note: Preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality reports sometimes contain information that turns out to be inaccurate. Typical errors include spelling errors in names, or incorrect ages; outdated hometown information; vehicle direction of travel; and incident times. The ASP sometimes corrects these errors in updated reports. ASP reports omit names of passengers or drivers who are not injured, even in instances when uninjured drivers may appear to be at fault. The reports also omit names of juveniles who were injured or killed, although we report those names when obtained through other sources.
