In recent days we welcomed aboard the Clark County Tax Collector’s Office as a short-term advertiser. Readers, particularly those with real estate or personal property in Clark County, are likely to notice a banner advertisement reminding them of the upcoming Oct. 15 deadline to pay real estate and/or personal property taxes. Clicking on the ad will take the reader directly to a website to make a payment. We advise taxpayers to pay by the deadline to avoid the embarrassment of having their names printed in our print competition, The Southern Standard. Save some ink and click the link!
We’ve had quite the interesting week. Tuesday morning we reported for duty as a prospective juror in a criminal case, and we were one name shy of sitting in as an alternate juror. Oddly and thankfully (for us), prominent personal injury attorney Taylor King was picked instead. We hung around after the voir dire process to cover the trial, which lasted a day and a half. At the conclusion of the first day, we had a bit of an argument with the prosecutor about publicizing the trial before its conclusion. Come Wednesday, it took the jury only half an hour to return with a not guilty verdict. Usually, a brief deliberation means a guilty verdict, but that wasn’t the case this time.
Two Arkadelphia Badgers football games this season are on Sports Illustrated’s 25 Games to Watch in Arkansas. Those games are the Oct. 4 home matchup against Bauxite and the road rivalry against Malvern on Nov. 8.
Nicole McGough will speak to the Arkadelphia Sunset Rotary Club this evening about The Acorn Project, a fundraising initiative to keep local kids fed. The club meets at 5:30 p.m. at Fish Net. Come join us.
