Construction worker injured in crane mishap at OBU stadium

A recent job site accident at Ouachita Baptist University left a construction worker with a severe injuries.

Firemen were summoned to Cliff Harris Stadium on Carter Road shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, for a report of an injured worker, according to a report on file at the Arkadelphia Fire Department.

OBU recently hired Seale Construction Co., Inc., to move the football stadium’s visitor side bleachers closer to the field, according to building permits filed in June with the City of Arkadelphia’s Building Department.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, bystanders reportedly told them that a large portion of metal bleachers had fallen on the patient while the bleachers were being lifted with a crane.

The report does not identify the patient, but indicates that his left leg was broken as a result of the accident. He also suffered lacerations to his left arm.

The worker was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Emergency personnel cleared the scene 50 minutes after their arrival, according to the report.
