
Dangerous heat will build over Arkansas through Independence Day, the National Weather Service in Little Rock said Tuesday.
A cold front will follow Thursday night and Friday, and will bring cooler, drier, and more seasonal air this weekend.
Oppressive conditions will continue Wednesday and Independence Day, with afternoon temperatures topping out in the 90s to around 100°F. Maximum heat index values will range from 100-115°F.
Many folks will be celebrating July 4th outdoors, and the weather is a major concern given heat, thunderstorms and lightning. The NWS is advising folks to play it safe and monitor conditions closely during the holiday.
Independence Day in the Arkadelphia area should see sunny skies with a high near 95 and a calm SSW wind in the afternoon. There is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Friday with a low around 75.
Precipitation chances increase Friday to 50% with partly sunny skies and a high near 92. Friday night has a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a low around 70.
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly in northern Arkansas Wednesday and Independence Day as a cold front approaches from Missouri. Some storms there could become severe, with damaging wind the main concern.

Slightly cooler, drier and more seasonal air is in the forecast this weekend into early next week. Thunderstorms will become more isolated as well.
