Gum Springs and Arkadelphia firefighters responded on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 7, 2024, to a report of a mobile home on fire at the intersection of Open Banks and River roads, 5 miles south of Arkadelphia.

Firemen were dispatched to the fire shortly after 1:40 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters cleared the smoke-filled residence and discovered no one was home. With no visible flames inside the mobile home, firemen discovered the source beneath the residence and removed underpinning to douse the blaze.

There was no damage to the home’s interior except for what the smoke caused, as well as to the underpinning and siding that fire officials remove to get to the source. Firefighters were on scene for a little over an hour.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The home belongs to Harvey and Myra Hudspeth and is adjacent to Harvey’s Wild Game Processing.
