Bennia Jones

Sister Bennia Ola (Giles) Jones was born August 6, 1941, to Lawrence and Safrona Giles in Sparkman, AR. She departed this life on April 16, 2024, at the Nightengale Nursing Home in Arkadelphia, AR.

Bennia accepted Christ at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Sparkman and later united with First Baptist Church in Sparkman under the leadership of Rev. Louis A. Craig. She was a faithful church member and served dutifully as an usher and mission worker throughout the community. She was a true active servant until her health failed, and yet she continued to give God praise.

Bennia enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, and sharing with family and friends. She was a loving, nurturing Mother to her only son, James (Hal) Henderson, who meant the world to her. Bennia never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a gentle smile. She united in Holy Matrimony to Leo Wilson on March 13, 1960, and later married Charlie “Tot” Jones. 

Sister Jones was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Irma Jean (Giles) Golden, and one brother, Marvin Lawrence Giles. 

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her beloved son, James Henry (Francis) Henderson, of Sparkman, AR; stepson, Stacy Matlock, of Dalark, AR; two brothers, Charles Edward Giles, of Eldorado, AR; Robert Lee Giles, of North Little Rock, AR; sister-in-law, Florence Giles, of Camden, AR; two grandsons, James C. Henderson, and Isaiah Henderson, both of Dalark, AR; three grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; one uncle, Rev. Roy T. (Marion) Salley, of Bearden, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Funeral services are under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 12 noon to 5:00 P.M. The funeral service will be on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Sparkman, AR. Internment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Sparkman, AR.
