We breakfasted Wednesday morning with our good friend Leslie Kent, whose work sometimes appears on these web pages. We ate at Matty’s, Arkadelphia’s newest eatery. It was a pleasurable dining experience, and we’ll be back, perhaps for a review. It’s certainly popular among our personal Facebook friends who lately have been posting pictures of the food. We chatted for some 10 minutes with the proprietor, Darren Ayres, who at first stood unknowingly before this news editor. He was appreciative for our endeavor to inform the community and said he realized our reach soon after we broke news that the property would be rezoned, as he was bombarded (our word, not his) by friends asking about the new restaurant. As the couple at the table next to us stood to leave, the gentleman interrupted Darren to salute arkadelphian.com’s work. We replied with a shy “Thank you.” We hope and expect Matty’s will become a staple in Arkadelphia’s small business community.
We haven’t celebrated Leap Day in four years. Today could be the day.
We sometimes drop the ball on idioms. The Spouse overheard a phone conversation last night in which Yours Truly admitted to “dropping the bomb” on a simple task he failed to finish. Nothing shocking or unexpected about that. In this column last week we incorrectly used that same idiom. We’ll gladly admit when we’re wrong, and we’ve learned not to argue with The Spouse.
We’ve got a busy March ahead.
As members of two local civic clubs, we can personally help spread word of the community benefits reaped by those two clubs. As programs often include information from various nonprofits, in turn we can communicate their messages, too. It’s win-win for all involved, but we’ve got to cap our time somewhere. We welcome news from any local civic club or nonprofit organization.
Our Facebook page now has 7,500 followers.
We’re on the fence about reporting state health department inspections of local restaurants. If you love the idea or hate it, drop us a line. We’d love your input.
