Arkadelphia Mayor: Keep city moving forward

It has been an honor to serve on the Arkadelphia City Board and as your mayor for the past 12 years combined. Throughout this time, I’ve developed a profound respect for those people who provide essential services to our city: dedicated police officers, firefighters, sanitation workers, street crews, and the dozens of administrative personnel who contribute to making Arkadelphia a great place to call home.

During my tenure, I’ve come to realize that we share a common desire for the things that enhance our quality of life. Some might call them amenities, but they are truly the things that enrich our daily lives – from our parks adorned with turf fields, to our safe neighborhoods, and the reliable drainage systems that protects our property from the perils of spring rains. We all want well-maintained streets, modern facilities, and a trail system rivaling those found elsewhere in The Natural State. It pains me personally to witness the departure of talented law enforcement officers and other vital personnel to neighboring cities due to our lack of competitive salaries. I am committed to positioning Arkadelphia as a leader in technology, training, and community services.

Four years ago, our community demonstrated incredible unity by overwhelmingly approving a one-cent sales tax to bolster these services. The resounding ‘YES’ was a testament to our dedication to Arkadelphia’s prosperity. Just recently, your City Board unanimously voted to extend the Move Arkadelphia Forward tax, ensuring the continuation of the services and amenities we’ve all come to cherish. Now, I am asking you to exercise your right to vote and join me in our shared mission to Keep Moving Arkadelphia Forward. Early voting began on February 20 at the Arkadelphia Recreation Center at 2555 Twin Rivers Road and will continue until Election Day on March 5. I urge you to show your support and encourage others to recognize the importance of this election to our community’s well-being.

Sincerely,
Mayor Scott Byrd
