Customers and employees of Dairy Queen Arkadelphia were taken by surprise to learn of the restaurant’s closing Monday evening

Signs at the entrances said the eatery is permanently closed. While the lights outside the neighboring Circle K convenience station lit up the parking lot, the Dairy Queen side of the newly built establishment remain in darkness.
The Dairy Queen in Arkadelphia is one of a dozen owned and operated by You Scream Holdings LLC, the largest DQ franchisee in Arkansas, with locations in Sheridan, Hot Springs, Monticello, Searcy, Russellville and central Arkansas. Other DQ locations under that ownership remain open.
At 6:30 p.m., two Arkadelphia police cars were parked outside the establishment, having responded there for a complaint of one customer who had words with the owner in protest of the closing.
A phone call to the franchise president went unanswered Monday evening; arkadelphian.com left a voicemail inquiry for questions.
Dairy Queen opened in Arkadelphia in 2021, sharing a retail space with a newly built Big Red store. In early 2023 Circle K acquired Big Red stores across the state.
