A Malvern man died this weekend after a collision with a tree near Crystal Springs

James M. Thompson, 90, of Malvern, was killed Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, on US Highway 270 in Garland County.

According to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary, Thompson was traveling westbound in a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup near Crystal Springs Road when he left the north side of the roadway and into the ditch. Thompson drove back onto the highway, crossed the highway and into the southern ditch, where he struck a tree.

Garland County Coroner Jayson Neighbors pronounced Thompson deceased at the scene.

The accident happened at 3:30 p.m. under clear skies and on dry roads, according to investigating Trooper Dylan Robbins.

Thompson’s body was taken to the coroner’s office.
