Elmer John Sveda, (USArmy/CSM/Ret), age 82, of Arkadelphia, passed from this life on Monday, August 14, 2023, at the John L. McClellan’s Memorial Veterans Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born February 12, 1941, in Bridgeville, PA, the son of the late Michael and Mary Dadum Sveda.
Elmer was retired from the United States Army after thirty-seven years of service to our country at the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and served in the Gulf War. Elmer later worked for UPS and retired after twenty-five years of service. He served on the Clark County Republican Committee, past president of the BMW motorcycle owners of America chapter and the past state president of the United Sidecar Association. Elmer enjoyed gardening and riding his motorcycle in his free time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Georgia Breashears Sveda, one brother, Albin Sveda and one sister, Rosella Anderson.
Elmer is survived by three sons, Russell Sveda (Karen) of Lakewood, CO, Tim Sveda of Arkadelphia and Todd Wehling (Fran) of Niceville, FL, one daughter, Danita Guerrero (Tony) of Rowlett, TX, one brother, Edward Sveda, Sr. (Sue) of North East, PA, one sister, Shirley Greenwald (Tom) of North East, PA, one grandchild, Savannah of Dallas, TX.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA.
