The Arkadelphian

Arkadelphia police remind motorists to obey speed limits and traffic laws in school zones after learning of a Central Arkansas security guard directing school traffic outside Joe T. Robinson High School died Monday, on the first day of classes, when he was struck by a vehicle on Cantrell Road.
In response to the news of that fatal accident, Arkadelphia Police Chief Jason “Shorty” Jackson said his department continues to focus on ensuring that traffic laws are obeyed, especially in school zones.
“We are heartbroken after hearing of the loss of Pulaski County Special School District Security Officer Victor Montgomery this morning and offer our deepest sympathies to his family and coworkers,” Jackson said. “We will continue to monitor school zones with zero tolerance for speeding and cellular usage, keeping the children and staff safe is our highest priority. Please, slow down and stay alert.”
School traffic can be a little hectic — especially during the first few days back to school — so the Arkadelphia Police Department steps up its patrol during these times.
The department has three policemen assigned as school resource officers for Arkadelphia Public Schools, although this week more officers will be directing traffic.
