Firefighters responded to a blaze Monday afternoon in Arkadelphia.

At about 2:15 p.m. the Arkadelphia Fire Department was dispatched to 1524 Logan St. for a report of a vehicle on fire in the carport. While firemen were en route they learned the fire had spread to the house. Upon arrival they found the exterior was engulfed in flames, which had also extended to the attic, Arkadelphia Fire Chief Jason Hunt said.

“At this time we believe the source was a motorcycle in the carport that the occupant had been working on,” Hunt said, noting that gasoline on the carport floor had possibly ignited.

There were no injuries in the fire, and one dog was rescued from the smoking home. Hunt said the home was not a total loss. Damages were limited to the exterior, attic and kitchen. The motorcycle, however, will likely be considered a total loss. A small pickup truck parked in front of the carport also sustained damages from the fire.

Firefighters from Caddo Valley and DeGray were summoned to the scene for mutual aid.
