For the Week in Clark County History, we combed through bound copies of the Daily Siftings Herald to choose some front-page news from editions dating 10, 20 and 30 years ago.
10 years ago: 2013
The Google Street View car, a Subaru Imprezza, spent a few days mapping 56 miles of Arkadelphia’s city streets.
The six-member Red River Baptist Association Disaster Relief team had recently returned to Arkadelphia from providing meals to residents of the flood-stricken Texas town of Eagle Pass.
With a ribbon cutting and festivities planned, restoration to the Peake Rosenwald school was to officially begin after the Arkadelphia Board of Education allocated $400,000 in stimulus funds and grants for the facility’s renovation.
20 years ago: 2003
The Randy Clark family of Okolona were named the 2003 Clark County Farm Family of the Year.
Some 500 runners participated in the annual Dam Night Run at DeGray Lake’s Skyline Drive. Proceeds from the event benefitted the Make-A-Wish Foundation, namely granting a wish for an 11-year-old boy who wanted to be a “computer whiz” and therefore was given a laptop computer, printer/scanner, digital camera and other accessories to fulfill his wish.
30 years ago: 1993
President Bill Clinton paid a visit to Hope to attend the funeral of longtime childhood friend, Vincent Foster Jr. Clinton’s visit attracted a “throng” of people awaiting his arrival to town.

Roy and George Ann Britt were named the 1993 Clark County Family of the Year. The Britts raised 150 cattle on 900 acres near Okolona.
