A Gurdon man was convicted this week for sexual assault of a minor and will spend 40 years in prison, Clark County prosecutors announced.

Brian Cole Tackett, 31, of Gurdon, Arkansas was convicted of three counts of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree for the sexual assault of a minor child in Clark County. Tackett appeared in Clark County Circuit Court with his counsel Matthew Burr and acknowledged the respective sexual assaults before being formally sentenced.

Tackett’s sentence of a total of 480 months in the Arkansas Department of corrections was recommended by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Gina White. Tackett was sentenced to 240 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections for the first count of sexual assault and 192 months and 48 months respectively for the second and third sexual assault counts. Additionally, Tackett was sentenced to 180 months suspended, as well as substance abuse programming, sexual assault offender programming and the requirement that he formally register as a sex offender.

The case involved a report of sexual contact by a minor victim who was interviewed at the Percy and Donna Malone Child Safety Center and made disclosures of multiple occasions of sexual assault committed against her by Tackett. Following this forensic interview, the file was investigated by the Clark County Sheriff’s Department.

“Today, justice was served for a child in Clark County,” said deputy Prosecutor Gina White. She added that she was proud the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office was responsible for putting another child sex offender in prison.

Prosecuting Attorney Dan Turner praised the efforts of White and the Percy and Donna Malone Child Safety Center. “Today’s plea was a result of the determination of Gina White along with the committed and compassionate employees of our Child Safety Center and local law enforcement,” Turner said. “We are truly blessed to have the resources afforded by our Child Safety Center. I simply cannot say enough about the work of Gina or our advocacy center.”

Following formal sentencing, Stewart was immediately remanded to the custody of Sheriff Jason Watson for transport to the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
