A Smackover, Arkansas, man died Tuesday afternoon on state Highway 8 in rural Dallas County.

A Buick Lucerne traveling eastbound on Highway 8 left the roadway when its driver failed to negotiate a righthand curve, according to an Arkansas State Police fatal crash summary. The vehicle would collide with two trees before coming to a final rest.

A passenger in the vehicle, 67-year-old Kevin S. Dore, of Smackover, was killed in the accident. Patricia E. Mathis, 57, also of Smackover and the driver of the vehicle, was listed as injured in the crash.

The accident happened at 1:37 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2023, under clear skies and on dry roads, according to Trooper Tre’Vaughn Moore who investigated the crash.

Dore’s body was initially transported to Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce.
