Jo Ferguson

Jo (Jackson) Ferguson took up residence in heaven on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, while surrounded by her loving family. Jo was born November 26, 1927, in Okolona, Arkansas to John Henry Jackson and Rosa (Clements) Jackson, both deceased. She was one of twelve children born to John and Rosa.

Jo spent most of her life in Arkadelphia where she and her husband, J.D. Ferguson (deceased), lived a life of servitude to their church family here at Park Hill Baptist Church where they were Charter members. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Jo took her role as a Deacon’s wife very seriously. She and J.D. mentored countless families throughout their years at Park Hill. She visited the elderly, sick and home bound. Jo spent untold hours sitting with relatives and church family, at the hospital.

While devoted to her church, Jo lived a life of servitude to her family as well, beginning at the age of 13 when her mother passed away. It was her responsibility to care for her younger siblings and manage the household. After marrying, she gave birth to four children. The second born, Joanne, was disabled and, although living for twelve years, remained an infant in every sense of the word. Jo remained devoted to Joanne for the duration of her life and still managed to take care of the rest of her family and her home with love and devotion.

Jo’s hobbies included canning the fruits and vegetables that J.D. grew, quilting, crocheting, knitting, reading the Bible and collecting antique glassware. After J.D.’s retirement, Jo and J.D. would take bags of homegrown vegetables to the homebound and other church members. Jo was a joy to all that met her. Her love of Jesus was evident in the life she lived. She tried to be a witness through her words and actions up until her last day on earth.

Jo is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Ferguson, daughter Joanne Ferguson, son Noel Ferguson, brothers (Henry, Herbert, Harold, Herman, Homer, and Harley), sisters (Lela, Annie Pearl, Margie, and Mildred). She is survived by sister, Alice White, son, Mike Ferguson (Pam), daughter, Robyn Fullhart (Randy), daughter-in-law, Joanne Ferguson, grandchildren Brian Ferguson (Catie), Lauren Norvell (Jody), Luke Ferguson, Olivia Ferguson, Grace Fullhart, great grandchildren Ayden Bennet, Julian Swofford, Rorie Bramlett, Mary Jo Bramlett,  Liam Ferguson and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Park Hill Baptist Church, Arkadelphia, Arkansas on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 10:00 AM.

A Celebration of  Her Life will immediately follow at 11AM with her body being laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery downtown Arkadelphia.
