We solemnly announce the passing of Shirley Jean Jernigan, age 66, of Arkadelphia, AR on December 30, 2022.
Shirley was born to parents, John Strickland and Shirley Burns of Warren, AR, on March 12, 1956. Upon completion of high school, Shirley went on to pursue a career in Human Services and retired as a Residential Supervisor from the Arkadelphia Human Development Center. Shirley served her community through outreach activities with her former church home, the Courage House – Women and Children’s Shelter, and by serving on various boards and committees. Her hobbies and talents included singing, playwriting, shopping, and feeding her family and friends delicious meals.
Shirley was one of the strongest, most giving women to ever walk this earth, and we were blessed to have her as the head of our family. She was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.
Shirley was predeceased by her late husband, LaVern Jernigan. She is survived by her parents; her daughters, Christine (Vince) Revels, Ty Stacey (Susan Panozzo), and Monisha (Cecil) Ramey; her grandchildren, Malcolm (Amanda) Bailey, JC Newborn, and Donovan Pugh; her great-grandchildren, Karlie Coleman, Christian Coleman, and Maddon Bailey; her brothers, James Dickerson, and Lawrence (Crystal) Phillips; and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, other relatives and close friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Williams Funeral Home with Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd, Jr., presiding. The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Williams Funeral Home.
