JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Ouachita Baptist University alumnus Gregory Junior has been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jags announced the news on Monday, waiving safety Tyree Gillespie to make room for Junior, who was the team’s sixth round draft pick this past April. He made headlines then as Ouachita’s first ever player selected in the NFL draft.

The Crossett, Arkansas, native was one of the best cornerbacks to ever play at Ouachita, and culminated his career in 2021 with All-America honors from D2Football.com, a spot on the All-Great American Conference First Team, and a trip to the Reese’s Senior Bowl as one of the top defensive backs in the nation.

Junior is now the only active NFL player representing a member school of the GAC. He graduated from Ouachita in December of 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and pre-professional studies.
