On Thursday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. there will be a 60th birthday bash for Rev. Russ Breshears at the Wesley Foundation, located at 316 N. 11th St., Arkadelphia.
Highlighting the event will be an ugly sweater contest and a Christmas treat auction, with proceeds helping students at Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist universities to purchase books, food and to get home for breaks between semesters.
Since participants know the fundraiser helps students in need, Breshears said he anticipates a bidding war, whether it be for “Aunt Martha’s” fruitcake that everyone secretly detests or “Grandma Pearl’s” pecan pie that everyone loves. There will be homemade fudge, as well as a smoked barbecue meal for 10, to be auctioned. “We will auction off anything that isn’t nailed to the floor,” Breshears quipped.
“It is great fun,” Breshears added. “Some of the best cooks in Arkadelphia will be represented.” There will be a prize for the ugliest Christmas sweater.
The public is invited to attend. There is no cost for admission.
