EDMOND, Oklahoma — Mulan Kamoe won a pair of singles matches and one doubles match on the day to reach the semifinals in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles alongside partner Kristina Kozlova at the ITA Regionals.
Kamoe started the day for the Reddies defeating Nebraska-Kearney’s Melisa Beccera 6-4, 6-4 in what has been her only straight-set victory of the tournament so far. Kamoe then got the best of Maja Jung of Washburn, withstanding a match-point from Jung in the third set, earning a berth in the semis with the 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 triumph.
Coming into the match, Jung held an overall singles record of 37-10, which was tenth in program history for singles winning percentage. Kamoe will now play for a spot in the finals against he tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, Washburn’s Sonia Smagina, who has yet to drop a set in four matches.
In doubles, Kamoe again got the best of Beccera, defeating her and partner Jazmin Zamorano with the help of teammate Kozlova, 8-6, before eventually falling in the quarterfinals to Senem Ocal and Florentia Hadjigeorgiou of Augustana, 8-6.
Kamoe will face off against Smagina tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CT. With a win, she would then face the winner of Northeastern State’s Emilia Cosatta and Missouri Western State’s Izzi MacGibbon at 12 p.m. for the championship.
