Ruby Tutt

Ruby Marie Tutt, age 94, of Malvern, passed from this life on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at home. She was born in Dallas County on July 20, 1928, the daughter of Mike D. Wilkins and Tishie Marshall Wilkins.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, George Clifford Tutt; three sisters; and four brothers. She is survived by three daughters, Anne Mize of Sulphur, La., Susan Slayton of Collierville, Tenn., Mary Tutt of Malvern; one son, George D. Tutt of St. Charles, Mo.; and one brother, Mike Wilkins of Sparkman.

Marie was an extraordinary person — caring, loving, kind and completely selfless. She was a shining example to us all of how a person should live their life. She always looked for the good in people, she never judged and always put everyone before herself. She was a positive influence in every life she touched.

Marie was a very creative person, who loved making beautiful things. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter. She made the most beautiful quilts — every stitch in her quilts was by hand. She did needlepoint, crewel, crochet and knitting. She made ceramics and painted. She gave her beautiful creations to family and friends, who no doubt will cherish these treasures.

She was an incredible cook and baker. Everything somehow just tasted better when she made it. Her pies were legendary – especially her specialty, Sweet Potato Pie. Many have tried to copy this pie but to date no one has succeeded in making it taste quite as good as her pie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Welch Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Whitely officiating. Interment will be Delamar Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
