Iris Ziegler

Iris Jean Logan Butler Scales Ziegler, of Conway, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at the age of 93.

Iris was the daughter of Walker A. Logan and Essie Sirmon Logan. She was preceded in death by her brothers Dr. Lowell A. Logan and John A. Logan. Also preceding her in death were her husbands, Rex T. Butler Sr. and Walter Ed Scales.

Iris was born in Langley, Arkansas, and raised in Arkadelphia, graduating from Arkadelphia High School and attending Henderson State Teachers College, where she majored in Early Childhood Education. She will be fondly remembered by the many children who attended The Arkadelphia Kindergarten, which Iris owned and operated from 1960-74. While living in Conway, Iris particularly enjoyed her friends in the Dorothy Robins-Light Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church, along with Faulkner County Master Gardeners, 20th Century Club, Conway Civic and PEO.

Iris is survived by her husband, Dr. John Ziegler of Conway; her daughter, Twylla Alexander (Drew) of Conway; and her son, Dr. Rex T. Butler Jr. (Kathleen) of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Rev. Jason Alexander (Kate) and Elizabeth Alexander
(Ben Goodwin), of Little Rock and Katherine Lewis (Andy) of Portland, Maine. Her legacy includes seven great-grandchildren, Luke, Nate and Anna Alexander, Ruby and Matthew Goodwin and Robert and Hazel Lewis.

The family would like to thank Home Instead and their dedicated care-givers, Arkansas Hospice and Hospice Home Care for their support of Iris during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Iris’ memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, Our House in Little Rock, or a charity of your choice.

A family gathering will be held to celebrate Iris’ life. Condolences can be sent to the family at 930 Reynolds Ave., Conway AR 72032.
